In San Telmo you can walk down cobblestone streets reminiscent of colonial times while listening to the strains of Mi Buenos Aires Querido or any other popular tango or milonga.
If you go down Calle Defensa, you will come to Plaza Dorrego. An open air market on weekends and holidays, the Plaza comes alive with street entertainers and tango dancers eager to show off their talents. Inside the Parque Lezama, at Defensa 600 (and Brasil) you will find the Museo Histórico Nacional.
The Museo de Arte Moderno is located at San Juan 350, between Defensa and Balcarce. Also worth visiting are the Mercado San Telmo at Carlos Calvo and Bolívar, el Viejo Almacén, the San Telmo Church
and the Russian Orthodox Church. Close to San Telmo is Buenos Aires most colorful neighborhood, La Boca, home of working class Italian immigrants, the tango Caminito and the famous Argentine artist Quinquela Martín who eternalized this picturesque waterfront area of slaughterhouses and brightly painted zinc houses. Boca Juniors and the team’s famous Diego Maradona also come from La Boca.
