Puerto Iguazú hosts most visitors to the Argentine side of Iguazú Falls but the town has managed to avoid tacky trappings and retains a pleasant resort feel. Puerto Iguazú´s very irregular street plan is compact enough for relatively easy orientation. The main drag is the diagonal Av Victoria Aguirre.
• The Iguazú Falls
When you see the torrents of water thundering down on all sides, you cannot help being stirred by that feeling of awe one experiences when in the presence of nature in all her sublimity. The Iguazú Falls, among the largest and most impressive in the world are an enthralling experience, an amazing sight of overwhelming height, which gives the abstract words “natural wonder” a real and unforgettable meaning. Of all the natural wonders and landscapes that South America has to offer the tourist, these gigantic falls, located on the border of Brazil and Argentina, near the common border with Paraguay, are the most impressive. It is not surprising that they draw more than two million visitors annually. Every second, nearly 450.000 gallons of water come crashing down over a distance of 4km, in hundreds of subsidiary waterfalls that are 60 to 80 meters high. This magnificent sight, together with the clouds of spray that envelop the area and the incessant roar of the glory, combine to provide an unique experience. And as if to complete the legendary quality of the place, the whole area is covered by luxuriant tangle of tropical growth, a study in bright green, a fest for the eye. |
